ואמר אחיתופל לאבשלום אבחר כען תרי עסר אלפין גברא ואקום וארדוף בתר דוד בליליא:
blylya dwd bthr wardwp waqwm gbra alpyn esr thry ken abkhr labshlwm akhythwpl wamr
Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Let me now choose twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David tonight.

ואיהך עלוהי כד הוא משלהי וידוהי מרשלן ואזיע יתיה ויערוק כל עמא די עמיה ואקטול ית מלכא בלחודוהי:
blkhwdwhy mlka yth waqTwl emyh dy ema kl wyerwq ythyh wazye mrshln wydwhy mshlhy hwa kd elwhy wayhk
I will come on him while he is weary and exhausted, and will make him afraid. All the people who are with him will flee. I will strike the king only,

ואתיב כל עמא לותך כד יתובון כולהון בתר דיתקטל גברא דאת בעי כל עמא יהי שלם:
shlm yhy ema kl bey dath gbra dythqTl bthr kwlhwn ythwbwn kd lwthk ema kl wathyb
and I will bring back all the people to you. The man whom you seek is as if all returned. All the people shall be in peace.”

וכשר פתגמא בעיני אבשלום ובעיני כל סבי ישראל:
yshral sby kl wbeyny abshlwm beyny pthgma wkshr
The saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

ואמר אבשלום קרי כען אף לחושי ארכאה ונשמע מה דיימר אף הוא:
hwa ap dyymr mh wnshme arkah lkhwshy ap ken qry abshlwm wamr
Then Absalom said, “Now call Hushai the Archite also, and let’s hear likewise what he says.”

ואתא חושי לות אבשלום ואמר אבשלום ליה למימר כפתגמא הדין מליל אחיתופל הנעביד ית פתגמיה אם לא דכשר בעינך את מליל:
mlyl ath beynk dkshr la am pthgmyh yth hnebyd akhythwpl mlyl hdyn kpthgma lmymr lyh abshlwm wamr abshlwm lwth khwshy watha
When Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom spoke to him, saying, “Ahithophel has spoken like this. Shall we do what he says? If not, speak up.”

ואמר חושי לאבשלום לא תקין מלכא דמלך אחיתופל בזמנא הדא:
hda bzmna akhythwpl dmlk mlka thqyn la labshlwm khwshy wamr
Hushai said to Absalom, “The counsel that Ahithophel has given this time is not good.”

ואמר חושי את ידעתא ית אבוך וית גברוהי ארי גברין אינון ומרירן נפשן אינון כדוב תכל בחקלא ואבוך גבר עביד קרבין ולא יבית ית עמא:
ema yth ybyth wla qrbyn ebyd gbr wabwk bkhqla thkl kdwb aynwn npshn wmryrn aynwn gbryn ary gbrwhy wyth abwk yth ydetha ath khwshy wamr
Hushai said moreover, “You know your father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are fierce in their minds, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field. Your father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.

הא כען הוא טמיר בחד מן קומציא או בחד מן אתריא ויהי כמיפל בהון בקדמיתא וישמע די שמע ויימר הות מחתא בעמא דבתר אבשלום:
abshlwm dbthr bema mkhtha hwth wyymr shme dy wyshme bqdmytha bhwn kmypl wyhy athrya mn bkhd aw qwmtsya mn bkhd Tmyr hwa ken ha
Behold, he is now hidden in some pit, or in some other place. It will happen, when some of them have fallen at the first, that whoever hears it will say, ‘There is a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom!’

והוא אף גבר גבר דליביה כלבא דאריא ממס ימסי ארי ידע כל ישראל ארי גיבר אבוך וגברין גברין די עמיה:
emyh dy gbryn wgbryn abwk gybr ary yshral kl yde ary ymsy mms darya klba dlybyh gbr gbr ap whwa
Even he who is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt; for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man, and those who are with him are valiant men.

ארי מלכית אתכנשא יתכנשון עלך כל ישראל מדן ועד באר שבע כחלא די על ימא לסגי ואת תהי אזיל בריש כולנא:
kwlna brysh azyl thhy wath lsgy yma el dy kkhla shbe bar wed mdn yshral kl elk ythknshwn athknsha mlkyth ary
But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together to you, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that you go to battle in your own person.

ונהך עלוהי בחד מן אתריא דנהך לתמן ונשרי עלוהי כמא דשרי טלא על ארעא ולא נשאר ביה ובכל גבריא די עימיה אף חד:
khd ap eymyh dy gbrya wbkl byh nshar wla area el Tla dshry kma elwhy wnshry lthmn dnhk athrya mn bkhd elwhy wnhk
So we will come on him in some place where he will be found, and we will light on him as the dew falls on the ground, then we will not leave so much as one of him and of all the men who are with him.

ואם לקרתא יתכנש ויתכנשון כל ישראל על קרתא ההיא ויקפונה משרין ונעקר יתה וית אבנהא ונרמינה לנחלא עד דלא נשאר תמן אבנהא:
abnha thmn nshar dla ed lnkhla wnrmynh abnha wyth ythh wneqr mshryn wyqpwnh hhya qrtha el yshral kl wythknshwn ythknsh lqrtha wam
Moreover, if he has gone into a city, then all Israel will bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there isn’t one small stone found there.”

ואמר אבשלום וכל אנש ישראל תקין מלכא דחושי ארכאה ממלכא דאחיתופל ויי פקד לקלקלא ית מלכא דאחיתופל תקנא בדיל דייתי יי על אבשלום ית בישתא:
byshtha yth abshlwm el yy dyythy bdyl thqna dakhythwpl mlka yth lqlqla pqd wyy dakhythwpl mmlka arkah dkhwshy mlka thqyn yshral ansh wkl abshlwm wamr
Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For Yahweh had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Yahweh might bring evil on Absalom.

ואמר חושי לצדוק ולאביתר כהניא כדין וכדין מליך אחיתופל ית אבשלום וית סבי ישראל וכדין מלכית אף אנא:
ana ap mlkyth wkdyn yshral sby wyth abshlwm yth akhythwpl mlyk wkdyn kdyn khnya wlabythr ltsdwq khwshy wamr
Then Hushai said to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, “Ahithophel counseled Absalom and the elders of Israel that way; and I have counseled this way.

וכען שלחו בפריע וחוו לדוד למימר לא תבית בליליא במשרי מדברא ואף מעבר תעבר דילמא יתהני למלכא ולכל עמא די עמיה:
emyh dy ema wlkl lmlka ythhny dylma thebr mebr wap mdbra bmshry blylya thbyth la lmymr ldwd wkhww bprye shlkhw wken
Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, ‘Don’t lodge tonight at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means pass over, lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people who are with him.’”

ויהונתן ואחימעץ קיימין בעין קצרא ואזלת אמתא וחויאת להון ואינון ייזלון וחויאו למלכא דוד ארי לא יכלין לאיתחזאה למיעל לקרתא:
lqrtha lmyel laythkhzah yklyn la ary dwd lmlka wkhwyaw yyzlwn waynwn lhwn wkhwyath amtha wazlth qtsra beyn qyymyn wakhymets wyhwnthn
Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying by En Rogel; and a female servant used to go and report to them, and they went and told King David; for they couldn’t risk being seen coming into the city.

וחזא יתהון עולימא וחוי לאבשלום ואזלו תרויהון בפריע ועלו לבית גברא בעלימת וליה גובא בדרתיה ונחתו תמן:
thmn wnkhthw bdrthyh gwba wlyh belymth gbra lbyth welw bprye thrwyhwn wazlw labshlwm wkhwy ewlyma ythhwn wkhza
But a boy saw them, and told Absalom. Then they both went away quickly and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down there.

ונסיבת אתתא ופרסת ית פרסא על פומא דבירא ושטחת עלוהי דקילן ולא אתידע פתגמא:
pthgma athyde wla dqyln elwhy wshTkhth dbyra pwma el prsa yth wprsth aththa wnsybth
The woman took and spread the covering over the well’s mouth, and spread out crushed grain on it; and nothing was known.

ואתו עבדי אבשלום לות אתתא לביתא ואמרו אן אחימעץ ויהונתן ואמרת להון אתתא כבר עברו ירדנא ובעו ולא אשכחו ותבו לירושלם:
lyrwshlm wthbw ashkkhw wla wbew yrdna ebrw kbr aththa lhwn wamrth wyhwnthn akhymets an wamrw lbytha aththa lwth abshlwm ebdy wathw
Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house; and they said, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” The woman said to them, “They have gone over the brook of water.” When they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.

והוה בתר מיזלהון וסליקו מגובא ואזלו וחויאו למלכא דוד ואמרו לדוד קומו ועברו בפריע ית ירדנא ארי כדין מליך עליכון אחיתופל:
akhythwpl elykwn mlyk kdyn ary yrdna yth bprye webrw qwmw ldwd wamrw dwd lmlka wkhwyaw wazlw mgwba wslyqw myzlhwn bthr whwh
After they had departed, they came up out of the well and went and told King David; and they said to David, “Arise and pass quickly over the water; for thus has Ahithophel counseled against you.”

וקם דוד וכל עמא די עמיה ועברו ית ירדנא עד מנהר צפרא עד חד לא שגא דלא עבר ית ירדנא:
yrdna yth ebr dla shga la khd ed tspra mnhr ed yrdna yth webrw emyh dy ema wkl dwd wqm
Then David arose, and all the people who were with him, and they passed over the Jordan. By the morning light there lacked not one of them who had not gone over the Jordan.

ואחיתופל חזא ארי לא אתקים מלכיה וזריז ית חמרא וקם ואזל לביתיה ולקרתיה ופקיד על אנש ביתיה ואתחנק ומית ואתקבר בקברא דאבוהי:
dabwhy bqbra wathqbr wmyth wathkhnq bythyh ansh el wpqyd wlqrthyh lbythyh wazl wqm khmra yth wzryz mlkyh athqym la ary khza wakhythwpl
When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, arose, and went home to his city, set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

ודוד אתא למחנים ואבשלום עבר ית ירדנא הוא וכל אנש ישראל עמיה:
emyh yshral ansh wkl hwa yrdna yth ebr wabshlwm lmkhnym atha wdwd
Then David came to Mahanaim. Absalom passed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.

וית עמשא מני אבשלום חלף יואב על חילא ועמשא בר גברא ושמיה יתרא ישראלא דעל לות אביגל בת נחש אחתיה דצרויה אמיה דיואב:
dywab amyh dtsrwyh akhthyh nkhsh bth abygl lwth del yshrala ythra wshmyh gbra br wemsha khyla el ywab khlp abshlwm mny emsha wyth
Absalom set Amasa over the army instead of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah, Joab’s mother.

ושרא ישראל ואבשלום בארע גלעד:
gled bare wabshlwm yshral wshra
Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead.
27
והוה כד אתא דוד למחנים ושובי בר נחש מרבת בני עמון ומכיר בר עמיאל מלא דבר וברזלי גלעדאה מרגלים:
mrglym gledah wbrzly dbr mla emyal br wmkyr emwn bny mrbth nkhsh br wshwby lmkhnym dwd atha kd whwh
When David had come to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,

מכבין וקולין ומאן דחסף וחטין וסעורין וקמחא וקליא ופולא וטלופחין וקליא:
wqlya wTlwpkhyn wpwla wqlya wqmkha wsewryn wkhTyn dkhsp wman wqwlyn mkbyn
brought beds, basins, earthen vessels, wheat, barley, meal, parched grain, beans, lentils, roasted grain,

ודבש ושמן ועאן וגובנין דחלב תורין קריבו לדוד ולעמא די עמיה למיכל ארי אמרו עמא כפין ומשלהין וצחי במדברא:
bmdbra wtskhy wmshlhyn kpyn ema amrw ary lmykl emyh dy wlema ldwd qrybw thwryn dkhlb wgwbnyn wean wshmn wdbsh
honey, butter, sheep, and cheese of the herd, for David and for the people who were with him to eat; for they said, “The people are hungry, weary, and thirsty in the wilderness.”
